How to transfer credits from a community college to UT?

I'm at a community college and want to eventually transfer to the University of Texas. Does anyone know what courses will transfer and how to check transfer numbers or equivalencies?

Transferring credit from a community college to a university can be quite a process, so it's good that you're taking the initiative to understand it thoroughly.

To determine if your community college courses will transfer to the University of Texas, the first place you should look is the Automated Transfer Equivalency (ATE) system on the UT website. The ATE allows you to look up your community college and see a list of courses that have previously been evaluated by UT. In addition to listing credited courses available, the ATE also shows how much credit each course is worth at UT and what UT course it correlates to.

However, just because a course does not show up in the ATE database, doesn't necessarily mean that it won't transfer. The caveat is that the course may not have been evaluated by UT yet, and you would need to submit the course for evaluation to see if it's eligible for credit transfer.

Remember, not all transferred courses will apply to your chosen degree plan. You should check with your academic advisor or the department at UT that runs your chosen major, to make sure the courses you've taken align with their requirements.

Additionally, keep track of your official transcript and course syllabi for all your community college courses. Having these documents on hand can facilitate smoother communication with your academic advisor when it's time to assess the transferability of your completed courses.

Finally, remember to ensure you meet the other admission requirements for transfer students into UT, including meeting the GPA minimums and completing the required number of credit hours.

All the best with your transfer journey! You're on the right track by doing your research.
