Best community colleges in Los Angeles for transferring to UCLA

I'm a junior interested in starting at a community college in Los Angeles to transfer to UCLA. Which community colleges have the best track record for transfers to UCLA?

No official is ranking purely based on transfer rates to UCLA, but several community colleges in the Los Angeles area are known to send a high number of students to UCLA each year. These include Santa Monica College, Pasadena City College, and El Camino College.

Santa Monica College, in particular, has a reputation for facilitating successful transfers, so much so that it's often been dubbed "UCLA's second campus." Additionally, Pasadena City College and El Camino College have transfer agreements with UCLA.

However, one important consideration is the TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) program with the UC system. Notably, UCLA isn't part of the TAG program, but it could be a good backup plan to also apply to a UC that does offer TAG.

Moreover, choosing the right community college shouldn't be solely about transfer rates. It would be best to visit the schools, get a feel for the campuses, assess the academic offerings, investigate the available resources and support services, talk to faculty and students, and see where you feel most comfortable and supported. Remember that a successful transfer depends on your academic record, selecting the right courses, and personal endeavors more than the specific community college you select.

Lastly, make sure to meet with a transfer counselor/academic advisor as early as possible. They can help you navigate the transfer process, select appropriate classes, confirm important deadlines, and provide you with the resources necessary to make the transition as smooth as possible.
