Transferring Credits from Daytona State College to UF

I'm planning on transferring from Daytona State College to the University of Florida. Can anyone share experiences with how credits are transferred? Are there specific courses that don't transfer well or that I should be aware of?

Hello! Generally, the University of Florida (UF) accepts transfer credits for many classes from Daytona State College, as well as other Florida College System institutions. They usually accept general education courses as well as those that align with the prerequisite requirements of the degree program you are transferring into.

That being said, it's critically important to check with UF's transfer admissions counselors to find detailed course-by-course transfer equivalencies and to discuss your specific degree program. Don't make assumptions about your credits -- just because a course has the same or similar name does not guarantee that it will transfer over identically or fulfill the intended requirement.

Your major or department might also have certain stipulations or requirements for transfer credits. For instance, classes for your major or core curriculum may require a certain grade, or there may be rules around how many credits you need to earn at UF specifically.

As for students' experiences, many have found that their general education classes and common prerequisite courses for their major were able to be transferred seamlessly. However, there have been instances where courses that were more specific or specialized (for example, those that may only be offered at UF) might not transfer. This can sometimes lead to students having to take, or retake, certain classes once they get to UF.

Again, it's best to connect directly with UF's admissions office or perhaps a transfer adviser, if one is available, to ensure you have the most accurate information for your specific situation. Best of luck with your transfer!
