How does GPA transfer from community college to university?

When transferring from a community college to a university, does my GPA from community college also transfer, or is a new GPA calculated once I start at the university?

The particulars of the transfer process can vary based on the specific institutions, but generally speaking, once you transfer to a four-year university, your GPA will "reset" and you'll start anew. Grades from your community college classes will not typically factor into your new university GPA.

However, this doesn't mean that your community college GPA is unimportant. In fact, it's incredibly crucial. Universities will often look at your GPA from community college to make decisions about admissions and sometimes for scholarship eligibility. It can also factor into decisions if you're applying to specific programs or majors within the university.

While your university GPA might start from scratch, this can actually be an opportunity to re-focus and potentially improve upon your academic record from community college. I would recommend taking what you've learned from your time in community college and applying it to your study strategies at university for the best chances of success.

In summary, while the actual numerical value of your community college GPA won't follow you, the academic habits and lessons learned sure will. Good luck!
