Do you need SAT/ACT scores to transfer from community college?

I'm currently at a community college and thinking about transferring to a four-year school. I'm confused about whether I need to retake the SATs/ACTs or if my current coursework is enough. Anyone know what the general requirements are?

The transfer requirements, particularly regarding SAT/ACT scores, can often vary from school to school. However, in many cases, universities are more interested in your college coursework and GPA than your high school records after you've completed a certain number of college credits.

Many four-year colleges and universities place a significant emphasis on the grades you've earned in your college courses, especially if they are in key prerequisite courses related to your intended major. In some instances, after earning a specified number of college credits (often around 30), your high school academic record – including your SAT/ACT scores – doesn't hold as much weight. Some institutions might not even ask for SAT/ACT scores from transfer students with enough college credits.

However, universities with more competitive admissions may still require SAT or ACT scores regardless of your college coursework. You might also find that specific programs or majors require SAT/ACT scores, particularly in fields like engineering or business.

The best approach here is to look up the specific admission requirements for transfer students on the websites of the universities you are interested in. You can also contact the admissions office directly with your questions. They can provide you with the most accurate and up-to-date information about their requirements. And don't forget about meeting with a transfer adviser at your community college. They can be an excellent asset in this process as they're familiar with the transfer policies of many institutions and can offer advice tailored to your situation.
