Do Gen Ed credits from an Arizona college transfer to California State?

I'm currently at a college in Arizona and considering transferring to a California State university. How likely is it that my general education credits will transfer over? Has anyone gone through this process?

Transferring credits from one college to another can be tricky, and the answer often depends on the specific colleges involved and the courses you've taken. However, California State University (CSU) system does have a fairly comprehensive policy for accepting transfer credits, including those from out-of-state schools.

CSU typically accepts credits from regionally accredited institutions. Therefore, your main concern should be whether the Arizona school you're currently attending is regionally accredited. If it is, there's a decent chance that many of your credits will transfer. However, whether a course satisfies a general education requirement at a CSU school often depends on the course content rather than its title.

You may also want to know that things like grades or format of study can influence the transferability of credits. A minimally acceptable grade (usually a C or higher) must be obtained for a course to be considered for transfer. Courses done via distance education programs are typically seen the same as traditional classroom courses.

My best advice would be to reach out directly to the registrar's office or the admissions office at the CSU college you wish to transfer to. They have staff who specialize in transfer issues and can provide specific guidance on which credits are likely to be accepted. Ask them if they have transfer agreements with your Arizona school, as this can make the process even smoother.

Don't forget to have a copy of your transcripts and course syllabi on hand during these conversations. That way, they can give you the most precise information. Just remember that until they officially evaluate your transcripts, most colleges can only give you general guidance and not absolute certainty about which credits will transfer. Good luck with the process!
