Transferring College of DuPage credits out of state

I've been considering moving out of Illinois and want to know how difficult it is to transfer credits from the College of DuPage to a college out of state. Does anyone have experience with this, and is there a strategy to make it easier?

Transferring college credits can indeed seem like a daunting task at first, but rest assured, many students successfully do it every year. In general, accredited institutions will often have agreements with other schools about accepting credits, this includes both in-state and out-of-state institutions.

Due to its accredited status, credits from the College of DuPage are likely to be accepted at many other institutions across the country, including out-of-state colleges and universities. However, how many credits are transferable will depend largely on the school you plan to transfer to and the specific courses you've completed at the College of DuPage.

To make this process easier, you should do a few things. First, identify the schools you're interested in transferring to and look up their credit transfer policies online. Many colleges have a 'Transfer Equivalency Database' or similar tool that shows how credits from different colleges (including College of DuPage) might transfer.

Then, you should reach out to the admissions office or the registrar at the future school to discuss your plans. They can provide more direct guidance about which credits are likely to be accepted. If possible, it might also be beneficial to connect with an academic advisor at the future institution who can assist you through the process.

Furthermore, when selecting your courses at the College of DuPage, aim for those that are more general in nature. Courses that fall into general education categories, such as mathematics, English, social sciences, etc., are typically more likely to successfully transfer. When in doubt, it's always a good idea to check directly with the school you're interested in transferring to.

Keep your syllabi, course descriptions, and coursework - you might need these documents during the credit evaluation process at your new school.

While transferring credits can vary based on the school, program, and even the specific courses, with careful planning and coordination, you should be able to transfer a majority of your credits from the College of DuPage to an out-of-state college. Remember, it's always best to contact the college you’re interested in to confirm their policies.
