Transferring community college credits to Rutgers?

I'm planning to transfer from a community college to Rutgers. Does anyone know how the credit transfer process works? Specifically, I'm curious if I can transfer all of my general education credits without any issues.

Transferring from a community college to a four-year institution like Rutgers involves a bit of careful planning, but it's definitely feasible. Rutgers, like many universities, has certain guidelines for accepting credit from two-year colleges.

First, the courses you've taken should ideally be academic in nature and similar to what is offered at Rutgers. For example, if the classes you took at your community college are general education classes (like English, Math, Social Sciences etc.), you're more likely to have those credits transferred because they might be equivalent to those courses offered at Rutgers.

Second, the grade you earned in the class typically has to be a C or better for Rutgers to consider them transferable credits. Grades of C- or below usually won't be considered for transfer.

Rutgers has a portal called NJ Transfer, where you can identify how the credit you've accumulated at a New Jersey community college corresponds to credit at Rutgers. This is a valuable tool because you can see exactly which courses transfer over for Rutgers’ degree requirements, both in your general education requirements and your specific degree program.

It's also recommended to work closely with an advisor at both your community college and at Rutgers during this process. The advisor from your current school can help you select courses that are more likely to transfer, and a Rutgers adviser can clarify the university's policy and ensure you're on the right track.

Lastly, remember that each department within Rutgers may have its own specific rules about course equivalencies and credit transfers, so the specifics may vary depending on your intended major.

Bear in mind that while most of your credits should be able to transfer, it may not be guaranteed that all of them will due to these factors. Ultimately, the exact number of credits Rutgers will accept depends on the university's evaluation of your transcript.
