Does my high school precalculus transfer to college?

I completed precalculus in high school and am wondering if it transfers as college credit. Do colleges generally accept high school-level courses for credit, or will I need to take it again?

Typically, standard high school courses like precalculus do not count for direct college credit. College credit is frequently awarded for college-level coursework, such as Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) classes.

If you took an AP Calculus course in high school and scored well on the related exam, you could potentially receive college credit. Most colleges accept scores of 3 or higher, but check with your specific institution as some may require higher scores.

That being said, a strong foundation in precalculus will certainly set you up for success in subsequent classes, even if you don't receive college credit for it. If a college places significant emphasis on mathematics or you're considering majoring in a field that requires mathematics, your proficiency in precalculus could help you place out of the course without actually earning credit. This is often determined by a placement test.

Remember, every college has unique guidelines surrounding credit for high school coursework, so it's advisable to check with the specific institution's registrar or admissions office to confirm how they handle this.
