How does Earlham College handle transfer credits?

I'm thinking about transferring to Earlham College and was wondering how they evaluate transfer credits. Does anyone know what their policy is, especially for courses from community colleges?

When it comes to the transfer of credits, Earlham College generally accepts credits from regionally accredited institutions, which includes community colleges. However, they evaluate transfer credits on a case-by-case basis.

Credits earned with a grade of C or above in college-level coursework are more likely to be transferred. But the college has a specific catalogue of courses in various disciplines, and not all courses from other colleges will match up with their offerings.

Moreover, not all credits accepted from the previous institution will necessarily count toward your major. Earlham determines whether a course can fulfill a major requirement, based upon the equivalency of the course content with their curriculum.

The transfer evaluation process often involves the Registrar's office as well as the respective department chair, who will help to determine if a transfer course is eligible to fulfill a major requirement.

Lastly, transferring students must still meet Earlham's residency requirement, meaning a certain number of credits need to be completed at Earlham. So even if you have a significant number of credits from your previous institution, you'll still need to spend a specific amount of time at Earlham to earn your degree.

To ensure a smooth transition and credit transfer, it's advisable to contact Earlham’s Registrar's Office or Admissions Office to discuss your individual situation, as they can provide the most accurate and updated information.

An example from a similar transfer process suggests obtaining course descriptions or syllabi from your previous courses as that can help Earlham determine course equivalency more effectively.
