Do Colleges Look at High School GPA for Transfers?

If I transfer from a community college to a four-year school, will my high school GPA still be considered? I'm trying to understand how much weight my past academics will have in the transfer process.

The emphasis on your high school GPA in the transfer process can depend on how many credit hours you've completed at your community college. Typically, colleges focus more on your most recent academic performance, so if you've taken close to or more than two years of college-level coursework, your community college GPA will likely be of greater interest to them than your high school GPA.

However, if you've only completed a semester or two at the community college, your high school performance might still be considered to a certain extent, though again, your college grades will often be given the most weight. Additionally, when you transfer, you're typically expected to submit all of your academic records, so your high school transcripts will likely still be part of your application package.

Just keep in mind that every school's transfer process is different, so you should research the specific transfer requirements at each institution you're interested in. To get the most accurate and detailed information, you might want to reach out to the admissions office at the specific schools you're looking at for a more thorough understanding of what they look for in transfer applicants. They can also offer insights into how your current GPA would fit into their transfer criteria.
