What are the specific transfer requirements from community colleges to UC schools?

I'm looking into transferring from a community college to a UC campus, but I'm not sure about the exact requirements. Do they differ significantly from one UC to another, or is there a standard set of prerequisites to watch out for?

Each of the University of California (UC) campuses has its own set of unique prerequisites and recommendations for transfer applicants, but the general minimum system-wide requirements for California Community College students applying for transfer to a UC are as follows:

1. Upper division transfer status: Complete 60 semester or 90 quarter units of transferable college credit with a grade point average of a least 2.4 (2.8 for non-California residents). No more than 14 semester (21 quarter) units may be taken as Pass/Not Pass.

2. Seven-course pattern: Complete a minimum of seven UC-transferable college courses with a grade of C or better in each course, comprising two courses in English composition, one course in mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning, and four courses in at least two other areas chosen from the arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and physical and biological sciences.

Remember, however, that meeting minimum requirements does not ensure admission to the UC of your choice. Admission to UC campuses (especially more selective ones like UC Berkeley and UCLA) is competitive, so it's advisable to aim for higher GPAs and fulfill campus-specific prerequisites for your major.

Several UCs also have articulation agreements with California community colleges. These are essentially contracts listing all the courses an applicant needs for their major to guarantee admission into a UC.

You can check the specific course requirements for each UC campus on ASSIST.org, which provides official lists of course equivalents that will fulfill specific prerequisites at different campuses.

And remember that UCs are test-blind, so your ACT or SAT scores will not be considered.

One last resource for California community college students is the UC Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program. Six UC campuses offer guaranteed admission to students from all California community colleges, though restrictions apply. Check out the TAG matrix on the UC admissions website for more information. Please note that meeting the TAG requirements also does not guarantee admission into your major.

All transfer application information is due by the deadline, which is typically in the fall for admission into the next fall term, with the application filing period being October 1 to November 30.

It's a great step to plan ahead. Best of luck on your UC transfer journey!
