What happens to my Glendale Community College transfer units?

If I transfer from Glendale Community College to another university, how do my units transfer? I'm a bit worried about losing credits in the process. Would love some advice from anyone who's been through this!

The process for transferring credits varies by university, but generally, many of the credits you earn at Glendale Community College should transfer over to your new university, especially if they're part of the general education. As a starting point, it's best to speak with an academic advisor at the university you're planning to transfer to. They can often provide a preliminary review of your transcripts and give you a sense of which credits are likely to transfer over.

Also, look at articulation agreements. These are partnerships between community colleges and four-year institutions that guarantee certain credits will be accepted by the four-year university. Glendale Community College could have an articulation agreement with the university you're interested in, especially if it's in the same state.

Also, consider your major. Transferability of credits often depends on your intended course of study. Certain specialized or major-specific courses may not transfer if the university does not have a similar course or if their program requirements are different.

In most cases, for credits to be accepted by another university, the course must be equivalent to one offered at the four-year university and you usually must have earned a grade of C or higher in the course.

Remember, you can always request a transfer credit evaluation from your prospective school before you decide to enroll to get a clear sense of what will count. Just keep in mind, the final decision on transfer credits always lies with the receiving university. It's always a smart move to keep all your syllabi and course materials until you've confirmed your credits have transferred accurately too.

So, be proactive in this process to minimize potential loss of credits. The more information you have, the better you can plan your transition and continue your educational journey without repeating unnecessary coursework.
