How does Grinnell College handle dual enrollment transfer credits?

I'm taking some dual enrollment courses in high school and thinking of applying to Grinnell College. Can anyone share how Grinnell handles transfer credits for dual enrollment classes? I'd love to get a head start with some college credits.

Grinnell College has a fairly flexible policy when it comes to accepting dual enrollment credits. The admission office evaluates these credits on a case-by-case basis once you've been admitted to the college.

Key factors that influence their determination include the course content, your grades in the classes, and whether the courses were taught at a college or high school. They also consider the type of institution (university or community college, for example) at which the dual enrollment courses were taken.

If your dual enrollment course was taught at a high school, it is less likely to be accepted as college credit. But if your class was taught on a college campus by a college professor, it is more likely to be considered for credit. The same goes for classes that are part of a recognized, accredited program.

One requirement they do enforce is that the course should be on a level with a course offered at Grinnell. Essentially, they look at whether the course content and rigor is equivalent to what you would find in a course at Grinnell.

Despite the flexible policy, Grinnell is meticulous about ensuring the academic integrity of the credits they are granting. So be prepared ahead of time to show syllabi or course descriptions from the dual enrollment classes, as well as your official college transcripts.

Keep note that the college limits the total amount of pre-matriculation credit from AP tests, IB exams, A-levels, and dual enrollment to a maximum of 24 semester credits (or 1 year's worth of credit).

Despite these possibilities, it's always best to contact Grinnell directly for a more accurate assessment based on your specific dual enrollment courses and your desired major(s) at Grinnell.
