CSU transfer requirements from Grossmont College

I'm currently at Grossmont College and looking to transfer to a CSU. What are the specific transfer requirements or steps I need to follow to make this happen? Any tips from people who have done this would be great! I'm a little stressed.

Happy to help!

Step 1: Understand Transfer Admission Requirements

The Cal State system has eligibility requirements for transfer students. Typically, to transfer to a CSU, students need to have completed a minimum of 60 semester (90 quarter) transferable units to be considered an upper-division transfer. If you haven't reached that point yet, you should focus on completing any remaining lower-division general education courses. For upper-division transfers, CSUs require you to have at least a 2.0 GPA, although some majors and campuses may require a higher GPA.

Step 2: Evaluate What You've Already Done

Next, review what courses you've already taken to see how they'll count toward your degree at your desired CSU. Grossmont College should have an articulation agreement with the various CSU campuses, giving you guidance about which courses count as equivalent at CSU. This process can be complicated, so consider seeking help from a college advisor or the transfer office at Grossmont College.

Step 3: Complete Required Courses

It's important to ensure you complete all of the necessary coursework before transferring. For most CSUs, you need to have completed generally a minimum of 30 semester units of general education courses, with grades of C or better. You'll specifically need to complete the Golden Four requirement—courses in written communication, oral communication, critical thinking, and mathematics or quantitative reasoning.

Step 4: Apply

Finally, when you're ready, you'll submit your application through the Cal State Apply website. You'll want to gather all necessary documents (like transcripts) and carefully fill out all portions of the application. The CSU system accepts transfer applications once per year during the October 1 to November 30 application filing period.

Keep in mind the specific requirements and deadlines could vary slightly by campus, so it's important to check with the CSU you're interested in for details. Best of luck with your transfer process!
