What are the transfer requirements from Harper College?

I'm considering transferring from Harper College and want to know what the requirements are for a smooth transfer. Do they have general requirements, or does it depend on the university I'm applying to?

Harper College and most other community colleges do not usually have specific requirements for students who intend to transfer. However, they do recommend a certain number of credits and a specific GPA to be competitive for transfer. Typically, most universities prefer students to complete an associate's degree or at least 60 credit hours (equivalent to two years of full-time study) before transferring. The reason for this is that many universities will accept this block of credits, making the transfer process smoother.

As for GPA, it often does depend on the university and the specific program to which you're applying, but as a rule of thumb, a GPA of 3.0 or higher is generally competitive.

That being said, each university may have its own specific transfer admittance prerequisites. For instance, some universities require minimum grades in particular courses for some majors (such as requiring a grade of B or better in calculus for engineering programs). Others may mandate a certain number of prerequisite courses in your desired field of study. So you'll want to research the specific requirements for your intended transfer school and program.

As a best practice, it would be beneficial to meet with academic advisors both at Harper College and at your prospective transfer university. They can help guide you in terms of which courses to take for a smoother transition and can answer any questions specific to your circumstances.

Remember to also look into application deadlines, submission of transcripts, and other details as these would vary by university. For smooth transfer planning, you should ideally start researching and preparing to apply about a year in advance.
