CUNY transfers: Calculating cumulative GPA tips?

Looking to transfer into a CUNY school, and I'm a bit lost on how to calculate my cumulative GPA with credits from various colleges. Does anyone have experience with this process and can offer guidance or tools?

In calculating your cumulative GPA when you've attended multiple institutions, you need to consider all your coursework, irrespective of where it was completed. Here's a simple 4-step process to get you started:

1. Identify the point values for the grades you've received at each college. Generally, an A is worth 4 points, a B is worth 3 points, a C is worth 2 points, a D is worth 1 point, and an F is worth 0 points. Some colleges may use pluses and minuses, which can slightly adjust the point value (for example, a B+ might be worth 3.33 points, and an A- might be worth 3.67 points).

2. For each course, multiply the number of credits by the point value of the grade to find the quality points for that course. For example, if you took a 3 credit course and received an A (worth 4 points), you would get 12 quality points for that course.

3. Add up all the quality points from all your courses. Then, add up all the credits from all your courses.

4. To find your cumulative GPA, divide the total number of quality points by the total number of credits.

Remember, this is just a general guide. Colleges might have different systems for calculating GPA, so it's wise to check the specific policies of the CUNY school to which you're applying. Depending on the school, certain courses (like remedial classes) might not count towards your GPA, and repeated courses might be calculated in a specific way.

Also, keep in mind that while your cumulative GPA is crucial, it's not the only thing that CUNY schools take into consideration when reviewing transfer applications. Other factors, like your course rigor, extracurricular involvement, and application essays, will play a significant role as well.
