Transfer GPA from multiple colleges: How to calculate?

I've taken courses at several colleges and I'm working on my transfer application. How do I correctly calculate my transfer GPA when my grades come from multiple institutions? Any calculators or tips would be helpful!

Sure, I can guide on how to calculate an overall GPA when you’ve attended multiple colleges. Keep in mind that colleges will look at each of your transcripts individually, but they will also want to see an overall GPA.

Here's how you calculate the overall GPA manually:

1. For each institution you attended, multiply the grade you received in each class by the number of credits it is worth. This gives you the quality points for each class.

2. Sum the total number of quality points and the total number of credits.

3. Divide the total quality points by the total credits.

Here's an example:

In Institution A, you took a 3-credit course and got an A (which usually amounts to 4.0). So, you would multiply 3 (credits) by 4.0 (grade) to get 12 quality points for this course.

In Institution B, you took a 4-credit course and got a B (which usually amounts to a 3.0). So, you would multiply 4 (credits) by 3.0 (grade) to get 12 quality points for this course.

You would then add these up (24 total quality points) and divide by the sum of the credits (7 credits), for a GPA of about 3.43.

Remember, it's ultimately up to the institution you're transferring to how they'll weigh and calculate your transfer GPA.

There are also online GPA calculators available if you'd prefer to plug in your numbers rather than do the manual calculation. In either case, keep up the good work and good luck with your application!
