Great film summer programs for high school students?

Hey y'all! I want to spend my summer learning more about film and video production. Can anyone recommend some solid film summer programs for high school students that they've had a good experience with or heard good things about? Preferably looking for something that doesn't break the bank. Thanks!

Hi there! I'm glad to hear you're interested in pursuing film and video production during your summer break. There are certainly some great film summer programs for high-school students out there. I'll list a few options for you to consider, both in-person and online.

1. New York Film Academy (NYFA) offers summer camps for students aged 14-17, with a range of courses such as filmmaking, acting for film, and screenwriting. Their camps are usually held in several locations including New York, Los Angeles, Florence, and Paris. Although NYFA can be on the pricey side, this is a highly renowned program.

2. University of Southern California (USC) School of Cinematic Arts has a Summer Program that's open to anyone 16 and up. Their courses cover topics like film production, animation and digital arts, and writing for film and television. Some of these courses can be expensive, but they're known for offering a high-quality experience with connections to industry professionals.

3. For more affordable or even free options, keep an eye out for local film schools, community colleges, or arts organizations that might offer film workshops or classes during the summer. Online platforms such as Coursera, Udemy, and LinkedIn Learning also provide a wide range of affordable film-related courses that you can pursue at your own pace. Finally, CollegeVine's blog contains a list of film-related summer programs and internships, which might feature options that are a good match for you: https://blog.collegevine.com/high-school-film-internships-summer-programs.

I hope this gives you a good starting point for finding a film summer program that fits your interests and budget. Good luck, and I'm sure you'll have a fantastic experience exploring the world of film!
