How does the AA transfer process work with Florida colleges?

If I get an AA degree from a Florida community college, what's the transfer process like for 4-year Florida universities? Does having an AA guarantee my admission? I'm trying to plan my college journey and would love some insight!

Excellent, good on you for planning! In the Florida college system, the AA transfer process is facilitated by what's called the "2+2 pathway." This guarantees that students who graduate with an Associate of Arts (AA) degree from an accredited Florida public community or state college will be given admission to a state university in Florida. However, this doesn't designate which university you'll gain access to, nor does it guarantee admission into competitive majors or programs.

When you have settled on what major you would like to pursue, it will be important for you to research the prerequisites for entering that specific program at various universities; some might require additional coursework even if you have an AA degree.

Once you've obtained your AA degree, the transfer process generally involves the following steps:

1. Application: Similar to a high school senior applying for undergraduate admission, you'll need to submit applications to the universities you are interested in.

2. Transcripts: You have to send your official community college transcripts to the universities you are applying to.

3. Optionally, you might want to fill out a transient student application if you wish to take courses at another institution while being enrolled at your home institution.

4. If accepted into a university, you will need to consult with your new university advisor to evaluate how your credits transfer and to make a plan for completing your bachelor's program.

By maintaining a solid GPA in your AA program and fulfilling any prerequisite courses for your intended major, you should be well-prepared for the process. Good luck!
