UC Transfer Requirements from Fresno City College

Can anyone break down the UC transfer requirements for Fresno City College students? I'm trying to plan my courses and need to make sure I'm on track to transfer successfully.

Good on you for researching transfer requirements early on. To be eligible to transfer to a UC school from Fresno City College (or any other California Community College), you must meet the following requirements:

1. You must have completed 60 semester (90 quarter) units of transferable college credit with a GPA of at least 2.4 for California residents.

2. You need to complete two transferable English composition courses, one transferable math course, and four transferable college courses in at least two of the following subject areas: arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, or physical and biological sciences. These are known as the general education or "breadth" requirements.

3. You do not need to declare a major when you apply, but if you have one in mind, it's advisable to complete at least some of the major's prerequisite courses at FCC. This can make your transition smoother and increase the likelihood of graduating on time after transferring.

4. Some campuses and majors also check if you've followed a recommended course pattern, often called a Transfer Pathway, which outlines the specific set of courses UC faculty recommend.

Remember that each UC campus and each major at those campuses might have additional recommended and required courses.

It's advisable to meet with a counselor at Fresno City College who specializes in UC transfers to make your plans. They can make sure you're taking the appropriate classes, meeting all the requirements, and maximizing your chances of admission to your preferred UC school.

You should also check out the website for each UC school to which you're thinking of applying, as they'll have specific advice for transfer students that will be applicable to your situation.

Plan carefully and work hard and you'll put yourself in a great position to make a successful transfer. Best of luck!
