Transferring from Northern Virginia Community College to George Mason

I'm a student at NOVA looking to transfer to George Mason soon. If anyone has transferred from NOVA to George Mason, I'd love to hear about your experience and any advice you might have.

It's wonderful that you're considering George Mason University as your next academic journey. A significant number of students have made the same transition successfully.

Firstly, you'll be happy to know that NOVA has a Guaranteed Admission Agreement (GAA) with George Mason. That being said, you should work towards fulfilling the GAA requirements, which generally include successful completion of a specific number of credits and maintaining a particular GPA.

It's also a good idea to meet with your NOVA academic advisor early on. They can provide guidance to ensure you’re enrolling in courses that will transfer and count towards your intended major at George Mason. This can alleviate the stress of transferring credits and reduce the need for extra coursework upon transfer.

When you're ready to apply, ensure your application is strong, as the transfer process is competitive. Your application should encompass more than just grades; involvement in extra-curricular activities and letters of recommendation can play a vital role in demonstrating your commitment and character.

Let's not forget, being a transfer student doesn't exempt you from mandatory orientation. It'll give you a thorough overview of the campus resources, opportunities, and community, and also help you connect with other transfer students.

In summary, make sure you use all resources available to you as a NOVA student, maintain a solid GPA, apply early, and take advantage of the orientation upon admission. All the best in your transfer journey!
