Handling transfer credits at Georgetown

If you've transferred to Georgetown, how did your previous college credits carry over? I'm trying to make sure my transition is as smooth as possible. Any advice on how they manage transfer credits?

Great question! Georgetown is generally very amenable to accepting transfer credits for courses that are similar in nature to its own curriculum. They will evaluate your transcript to determine how previous coursework aligns with their own programs of study.

Usually, the process begins after you have been admitted and have decided to enroll at Georgetown. You’ll need to send the official transcript from your prior institution to Georgetown's Registrar's Office. They'll evaluate the documentation and determine what credits can be accepted toward meeting the degree requirements.

However, it's important to keep in mind that certain departments may require a syllabus or additional course information to determine if the content and rigor of the course are similar enough to a corresponding course at Georgetown.

Remember that a minimum grade (often C or better) is required for transfer credits, and transferred courses typically do not factor into your GPA at Georgetown.

In addition, make sure you're aware of Georgetown's residency requirement, which means that transfer students must complete a specific number (usually, half) of their credits at Georgetown.

Your best course of action is to reach out to the Georgetown College Dean’s Office with any questions about how credits might transfer. They should be able to provide detailed information based on your specific scenario, and they can also help you plan the smoothest possible path towards graduation.

Good luck with your plans; transferring can be a big step, but it can also open up great opportunities.
