Curious About Georgetown College Transfer Requirements

I'm considering transferring to Georgetown University, and I'm trying to figure out what the specific college transfer requirements are. Does anyone know what GPA or credits are typically needed? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Georgetown University typically looks for prospective transfer students with a solid academic foundation, ideally with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Remember that this is just an ideal range - applicants with lower GPAs may still be considered if they demonstrate other strong aspects in their applications.

For transferring credits, Georgetown outlines that you should have completed a year of full-time study (or equivalent) elsewhere, but not more than 2.74 years. There are two important factors to keep in mind:

1. You should have at least the rough equivalent of Georgetown's core requirements covered in your first year(s) of college, as these are prerequisites for many of the major-specific classes. This can include coursework in humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, theology, philosophy, and fine arts.

2. The maximum number of transferable credits is 60. If you've taken more than this, Georgetown will only acknowledge 60 toward your degree. And ultimately, the decision on what does and doesn't transfer is up to the Dean's Office.

Aside from these numbers, you will also need to provide the standard materials such as your college transcript, high school transcript, two academic letters of recommendation, optional personal recommendations, and the Common Application for transfer students. A College Report is required from all colleges/universities you have attended.

Georgetown is also unique in that they require interviews for all transfer applicants with an alumni interviewer in your area. This will be an important aspect to prepare for in your applications process.

One last thing to be aware of is that Georgetown does not have an open enrollment period for transfer students. They only accept transfers for the fall term, and the application window is typically March 1st to March 15th.

Good luck with your application! You're making a big step and it's great to see that you're doing your research thoroughly.
