I'm considering transferring to Goucher College and wondering if they offer any scholarships specifically for transfer students. If so, what are the criteria, and how competitive are these scholarships?
Yes, Goucher College does offer scholarships specifically for transfer students. They offer the Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Honor Scholarship to students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa, the Honor Society for community college students. The award amount is $2,000, and it is renewable each year as long as you maintain satisfactory academic progress.
There is also the Honors Award in which transfer students who have successfully completed at least 12 credits of honors coursework from one of their partner colleges are eligible to receive an award of $2,000. Our partner colleges include: Baltimore City Community College, Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC), Frederick Community College, Harford Community College, Montgomery College, Howard Community College, and Harrisburg Area Community College (PA).
In addition, Goucher also offers the Associate's Degree award, which is awarded to transfer students from any community college who have completed an Associate Degree of Arts or Associate Degree of Sciences and are eligible to receive an award of $2,500.
All transfer students with a complete application will be considered for annual merit scholarships based on a recalculated cumulative GPA and the award amount ranges from $15,000 with the Transfer Merit Scholarship to $35,000 with the Founders Award.
The criteria for these scholarships revolve around high academic achievements and active involvement in extracurricular activities at your current institution. As for competitiveness, it would largely depend on the applicant pool for that particular year, but bear in mind Goucher values academic excellence and is always ready to reward a deserving transfer student.
Remember to review the financial aid section of Goucher's website or reach out to their financial aid office for the most comprehensive and current information.
