Transfer community college credits to TAMU

I'm planning to apply to Texas A&M University and want to transfer my community college credits. Does anyone know how TAMU handles credit transfers from community colleges? Any tips or common issues to watch out for?

Hello! When it comes to transferring credits from a community college to Texas A&M University (TAMU), the university typically accepts transfer credits for courses in which you've earned a C grade or higher from an accredited institution. Whether a certain course will count towards your TAMU degree is determined on a course-by-course basis but usually, general education and STEM classes transfer without much issue.

It's advisable to take a look at the University's Transfer Course Equivalency site where you can search for the course equivalencies between your community college and TAMU. Additionally, you could reach out to a transfer admission counselor at TAMU who can provide more targeted advice regarding your prospective major.

One thing to be aware of is the "25% Rule" at TAMU. According to this rule, at least 25% of the semester credit hours required for your degree must be completed in residence at Texas A&M University. So, if your program requires 120 credits, a minimum of 30 credits must be completed at TAMU.

Also, in many cases, students find that while their credits get transferred, their GPA does not. The GPA starts anew once you enroll at TAMU, so be sure to confirm this as well.

Before taking courses at a community college with the intent to transfer, you might want to check in with TAMU about how these credits will fit into your overall degree plan to avoid any unwelcome surprises.

Best of luck with your decision!
