Transferring credits from community college to University of Houston

I attend a community college and I'm hoping to transfer to the University of Houston. Has anyone gone through this process and can share what it was like? How smoothly did your credits transfer?

Sure thing! Transferring credits from a community college to a university is a common practice and the University of Houston has a system in place for this. A key first step in the process is to utilize both your community college advisers and the University of Houston's transfer admissions counselors to help guide you through ensuring that your courses will be transferrable.

In terms of how smoothly your credits can transfer, there are a few factors at play. Firstly, you must have received a grade of "C" or better for the credits to be considered for transfer. In addition, certain programs may require higher grades for major-specific courses, so it's always a good idea to consult with an adviser.

Another point to consider is the Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS): if your community college participates in this system, it makes it a whole lot easier to figure out which courses will transfer. Houston also provides a Transfer Equivalency Guide, which can be used to look up equivalent courses from many different schools which have been pre-approved for transfer credit.

Just remember that even if a course transfers, it doesn't necessarily mean it will fulfill specific degree requirements, especially for those major-specific classes.
