How is the transfer college report sent?

I'm in the middle of the transfer process and need to send my transfer college report. Do schools usually mail or email these forms to the prospective college? How important is it for completing my application?

The Transfer College Report, also known as the College Report or the Registrar Report, is a document that needs to be filled out by a college official at your current or most recent institution. The official could be either your advisor, a dean, or a registrar. The purpose of this report is to confirm that you're in good standing at that institution and verify your academic and disciplinary record, among other things.

It's crucial to your application because it helps the prospective college assess your eligibility and suitability based on past behavior and academic performance at your current institution.

The method of sending the document largely depends on the application system used by the college you are transferring to. If you're using the Common Application, for instance, you'd add your college official as the Recommender in the School Forms section, and they would then be able to fill out the Transfer College Report electronically and it would be sent directly through the Common App system to your colleges.

On the other hand, if the prospective college uses its own application system, you might need to download the form, have it filled out by your college official, and then either scan and email it or send it via mail, depending on the college's preferred method.

Regardless of the method used, it's very important to clarify the process with both your current school's office and the admissions office of the college you're applying to, and to do so well in advance of the deadline, so that you have plenty of time to follow protocol. Make sure to also provide your college official with all of the relevant details they need to complete the report, and again give them sufficient time to do so. Finally, remember to thank them for their time, as they are helping you in your transfer journey!
