Transferring High School Credits to Columbia Basin College

Is it possible to transfer high school classes for credit at Columbia Basin College? I'm trying to figure out how my current credits might count if I enroll there. Any insights would be helpful!

Certainly! Transitioning from high school to college, and potentially transferring credits, can be an exciting time. Columbia Basin College (CBC) does recognize several high school courses for college credit, but this depends on the type of classes you've taken, particularly if they were Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or dual enrollment courses.

For AP classes, CBC will award college credit for scores of 3 or higher on the respective AP exams. For example, a score of 3 or 4 on the AP Psychology exam would equate to 5 credits for PSYC& 100 at CBC.

If you took any IB courses, Columbia Basin College will award credit for higher-level exams with scores of 5 or higher. The specific credit depends on the exam taken. If you've participated in any dual enrollment or running start programs while in high school, these credits can potentially be transferred as well since they typically involve college-level coursework.

However, it must also be pointed out that the transferability of these credits can differ based on your chosen degree or program at CBC. I would strongly recommend getting in touch with an academic advisor at CBC or looking into their credit equivalency guides to get a clear understanding of how your specific credits may transfer.

Remember, while transferred credits can lighten your academic load, it's essential to make sure they're advancing you towards your degree, and not just granting you elective credits.
