Transferring High School Diploma Credits to Alabama Community College

I'm planning to go to community college in Alabama after high school. How do I make sure my diploma credits transfer? Do Alabama community colleges require anything specific for this?

In terms of transferring from high school to community college, the phrase "transferring credits" isn't quite the correct terminology. Rather, your high school will need to issue you a final transcript showing you've earned a recognized high school diploma. Most community colleges in Alabama and elsewhere require incoming students to have a high school diploma or equivalent, such as a GED.

That being said, you don't actually "transfer" high school credits to the community college. However, those high school courses (and the grades you earned in them) help to showcase your academic capacity. Furthermore, certain high school courses may be prerequisites for college classes.

Often, you'll need to request a high school transcript be sent to the community college you're going to attend. The transcript should include confirmation of your graduation. You can usually request this from your high school's office or counseling department.

In terms of any specific requirements, it's always best to check directly with the community college you plan to attend. Different colleges can have different requirements or processes. The admissions department is typically the best place to get accurate, up-to-date information. They can guide you through what to do and what paperwork is necessary.
