How hard is it to transfer biomedical science to medicine at King's College?

I'm currently studying biomedical science at King's College and want to transfer to their medicine program. Has anyone here done this? What are the main differences in course requirements, and is it a super competitive process?

Transferring from biomedical science to a medicine program is usually a competitive process, and King's College London is no exception. The shift to a medical degree involves a major change and you would typically need to show outstanding results in your current course.

Biomedical Science is a science-based degree focused on human biology, including the causes and mechanisms of disease. The course covers a range of scientific disciplines, including biochemistry, genetics, and immunology, among others. The degree may not include direct patient interaction, though it does prepare students for graduate-level health programs.

On the other hand, Medicine at King's College London is structured into five-year or six-year MBBS courses. Medical school is more clinically oriented with a blend of theoretical and practical elements, including patient contact from the first year.

While it's possible to transfer from Biomedical Science to Medicine, the process is likely to be competitive and potentially challenging. Medicine tends to admit a smaller number of students and has higher entry requirements, including excellent academic performance, entrance tests like the UCAT, and evidence of motivation and understanding of the medical profession.

Given the differences in program requirements and content, direct transfers may not be possible in the standard sense, and you may need to apply to the medical program as a new undergraduate student. As such, you'll need to consider factors such as additional years of study and tuition costs. Given this, it's strongly advised you talk to an advisor from King's College to understand your options and plan accordingly. It's also worth exploring alternative pathways into medicine, such as graduate entry medical courses that accept Biomedical Science graduates.
