Does transferring reset your GPA?

I'm really thinking about transferring to a different college, but I'm unsure how it affects my GPA. Does anyone know if my GPA will reset once I transfer, or do the grades from my original college carry over?

When you transfer to a new college, your GPA at the new institution starts fresh and does not include grades from your previous college. However, while your old GPA will not be rolled into your new one, it's important to be aware that the grades from your previous college will still be visible on your transcript, and graduate schools or potential employers may request to see all your college transcripts. So in a way, your previous grades can still impact your future even if they are not included in your new GPA.

Additionally, the courses you've taken at your previous college can usually be transferred as credits towards your degree at your new institution. The specific rules for transfer credits vary by college, but this generally means that you don't have to retake classes you've already completed. Be sure to verify with the registrar or academic adviser at the college you're transferring to, to ensure you know how your transfer credits will be evaluated and assigned, as this can differ greatly from school to school.

In summary, while your new GPA will not be influenced by grades from your old institution, your old grades and GPA are still important and can impact your future opportunities.
