Do SAT scores matter for college transfer applications?

I'm thinking about transferring to a different college and I wasn't sure if I need to submit my SAT scores. I took the SAT a while back, and I'm not very confident in my score. Do they really look at that?

The importance of SAT scores in the college transfer process can vary quite a bit from school to school. Some colleges do require them, particularly if you have completed fewer college credit hours. However, other schools might not require them at all, focusing instead on your college GPA and the reason for your transfer.

For those schools that do require SAT scores for transfer applications, it's largely because they're interested in your academic performance across a longer period of time than just a semester or two of college. Therefore, your SAT scores can serve as a kind of academic reference point.

However, colleges tend to understand that you've grown and changed as a student since you took your SAT, so they typically won't weigh these scores as heavily as your college grades. After all, your most recent academic performance is usually a better indicator of your abilities.

If you're uncertain about the policies of the colleges you're interested in, the best course of action is to check their transfer admissions webpages or reach out to their admissions offices directly. That way, you'll know for sure whether or not you need to submit your SAT scores.
