Switching sororities after transferring?

About to transfer colleges and I've been wondering if it's possible to switch sororities. Is this common or should I try to stay with my current sorority even at a new school?

The process of switching sororities after transferring to a new school is likely going to be complex. That's because the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), which oversees most sororities, has rules in place that prevent members from joining another sorority once they've been initiated into one. This policy is generally in place to help maintain loyalty and sisterhood in participating organizations.

However, if your current sorority has a chapter at your new college, it might very well be possible to join this chapter after transferring. The transition process will likely involve providing some proof of your standing in the sorority at your previous school, meeting your potential sisters and going through other parts of their joining process. Ultimately the decision may be up to the chapter and national organization.

On the other hand, if your sorority doesn't have a chapter at your new school, then you may not have direct sorority involvement on campus. It could be a good idea to consider other ways to be involved socially, through clubs, organizations, or intramural sports.

Keep in mind that you will always be a part of the sorority you were initiated into, regardless of whether or not you are active. You should reach out to your sorority's headquarters or an advisor for specific guidance on your situation. Switching sororities isn't common due to these guidelines, but navigating Greek life as a transfer student is definitely a done thing, so don't feel alone!
