How does Lafayette College handle transfer credit?

I'm thinking about transferring to Lafayette College, but I'm curious about how they handle transfer credits. Will my current college classes count, and are there any specific criteria I should keep in mind when applying?

Lafayette College reviews every transfer course individually to determine if credit can be granted. All accepted credits will count toward the 32-course credits needed to graduate but may not necessarily fulfill specific degree requirements. In general, to get credit for a course you've already taken, that course needs to be similar in content and level to a course that Lafayette College offers.

Courses must be taken at an accredited institution, and you should have earned a grade of 'C-' or better. Pass/Fail credits are typically not accepted unless 'Pass' is defined as C- or above. Also, remember that laboratory courses, workshops, internships, and physical education courses are generally not transferable.

Courses that are vocational, terminal, or intended for professional certification often aren't acceptable for credit. If your course was a college-level course and was taught on a college campus (not at your high school), you may receive credit for it, but dual-enrollment credits and online credits are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Pro-tip: It would be helpful if you could collect syllabi from your courses. Having the syllabi handy saves time if the college's Registrar's office asks for it to evaluate if a course is equivalent to a course that Lafayette offers.

Keep in mind that only the credits transfer, not the grades. The classes you transfer will appear on your Lafayette transcript, but they won't factor into your GPA at Lafayette.

While the college tries to be as accommodating as possible, there's no sure-fire way to guarantee that all of your credits will transfer, especially if they come from a curriculum that's fundamentally different from Lafayette's. I would advise you to reach out to Lafayette's Registrar's Office or Admissions Office to discuss your specific situation. There, they can give you a more definitive answer about how your credits will transfer.
