What are the transfer requirements for LSU's College of Engineering?

I'm interested in the LSU College of Engineering but I might start at another school. What are the specific transfer requirements for getting into the engineering program there? Should I focus on particular classes or grades?

To transfer to LSU's College of Engineering, you will need to meet a range of academic requirements. Most importantly, you should have a minimum college GPA of 2.5 on all college-level course work (though some departments recommend a 3.0+), and must be in good standing at the last institution attended.

In terms of specific classes, prior to transferring, you should complete at least one semester of college-level calculus (MATH 1550) and one semester of college-level calculus-based physics (PHYS 2110 or PHYS 2113). You'll need to have earned a C or better in these classes.

You should try to finish other foundational STEM courses in your initial college experience. Additional suggested classes to complete before transferring include: Calculus II (MATH 1552), General Chemistry I & II (CHEM 1201 & 1202), or Engineering Materials (CHEM 1212), and introduction to Engineering (ENGR 1050). If possible, it may be beneficial to fulfill your general education requirements before applying for a transfer, as this could give your application an edge.

You should also consider the admissions deadlines. LSU accepts transfer applications for the fall semester until July 15, and for the spring semester until December 1.

Of course, every student's situation is unique, so you should reach out to LSU's admissions office, or the department you're interested in, for the most personalized advice. But as a general rule of thumb, maintaining a strong GPA and ensuring you've completed key foundational courses in mathematics and science can significantly enhance your transfer application.
