AAS Degree Transfer to NC Colleges

Does anyone know which North Carolina colleges accept transfers with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in accounting? I'm trying to find a good fit to continue my education at a bachelor's level.

Many North Carolina colleges and universities accept transfer students with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. However, it's essential to bear in mind that due to the typically technical and career-focused nature of AAS degrees, not all credits may transfer as directly towards a Bachelor's degree as in the case of, say, an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree.

You'll need to contact the transfer admissions departments or check the transfer guides of the schools you're interested in to get precise information. That said, I can offer some general information.

1. University of North Carolina System: This includes 16 universities around the state. Several campuses within the UNC system have established transfer pathways for students with AAS degrees from the state's community colleges.

2. North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU): This is a sector of 36 private, non-profit colleges and universities in the state that may provide viable transfer options.

The Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) between the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) and the University of North Carolina System ensures that up to 64 semester hours of course credits will transfer from community colleges to UNC System universities, although this primarily applies to AA and AS degrees, not AAS degrees. However, some universities have developed '2+2' programs for specific AAS degrees, including Accounting, where you complete the first two years at a community college then transfer to a four-year institution.

UNC at Chapel Hill has a program known as C-STEP (Carolina Student Transfer Excellence Program) that provides a seamless transition for transferring from a partner North Carolina community college, but it's very selective.

Given that you're studying accounting, you may also want to look into universities with robust business departments or colleges. For instance, Appalachian State University, East Carolina University, and North Carolina State University all have well-regarded business and accounting programs.

Remember, every university has different policies for transferring credits, so it's critical to reach out to universities individually. It would also be beneficial to work with your current school's advising or counseling office, as they can often provide resources and guidance in this process.
