How does the nursing transfer process work at Merrimack College?

I'm looking into transferring into the nursing program at Merrimack College. Does anyone know what the transfer process is like and any specific requirements for nursing?

The process of transferring to Merrimack College involves some key steps, and as a potential nursing student, you would have to meet some additional special requirements as well.

Firstly, you'll need to apply through the Common Application online, just like a first-year student. However, the checklist of what you need to include is slightly different:

1. College transcripts: You’ll need to provide transcripts from all previous higher learning institutions. These should demonstrate a reasonably strong GPA, although Merrimack doesn't specify a minimum for transfers.

2. High School Transcript or GED: You would need to include this as part of your application.

3. Letters of Recommendation: Merrimack recommends one, but you can include up to three.

4. Essay/Personal Statement: Merrimack doesn't specify a prompt for transfer students, so this can be a general personal statement where you explain your reason for wanting to transfer, and why specifically to Merrimack's nursing program.

Now, if you want to study nursing at Merrimack, the school will want to see that you've taken certain high school courses (or their equivalent at your previous institution). These include:

1. English: 4 Units

2. Math: 3 Units (including Algebra I, II, and Geometry)

3. Science: 3 Units (Biology and Chemistry)

4. Social Science: 2 Units

Additionally, they prefer if you've also taken certain advanced courses such as Anatomy and Physiology, Statistics, or College-Level Algebra. If you haven’t taken these courses, it would be beneficial to have them completed before applying.

Once you're admitted and have decided to attend, the school will do a transfer evaluation to see which of your prior college credits can be applied to your degree at Merrimack.

Take note that the nursing program at Merrimack is competitive and space might be limited. So, meeting all requirements doesn't necessarily guarantee admission to the program.

It's also worth mentioning that you should submit your applications as soon as possible since transfers are often evaluated on a rolling basis until space becomes limited.
