Transferring from Miramar College to SDSU

Does anyone have experience transferring from Miramar College to SDSU? I'm curious about meeting the requirements and what the application process is like. Any advice would be awesome!

Transferring from a community college like Miramar to San Diego State University (SDSU) is quite common and both institutions will work to ensure a smooth transition for their students.

For transfer admission to SDSU, you'll need to obtain a minimum 2.0 GPA in all transferable courses, but note that the actual GPA for admission may be much higher due to the competitive nature of the admission process.

SDSU highly encourages you to finish your "Golden Four" General Education requirements at Miramar. These include one course in each of four areas: Oral Communication (A1), Written Communication (A2), Critical Thinking (A3), and Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning (B4). Completing the Golden Four is key to reaching junior status, which is required for admission at SDSU.

As part of the application process, you will need to submit your transcripts from any colleges attended, apply through the Cal State Apply website, and pay an application fee. Keep in mind, the application period for SDSU generally is October 1 to November 30 for fall admission.

If you have uncertainties about which classes to take or wish to develop a transfer strategy, I highly recommend getting in touch with a counselor both at Miramar and SDSU. They will be able to provide detailed and specific advice depending on your major and career goals.

Lastly, the fact that Miramar and SDSU are both in the San Diego area may provide additional benefits for you. Try to take advantage of local events, academic forums, or job fairs at SDSU for networking and giving you a feel for the university culture as often they will be open to community college students.

Remember to stay organized and not to rush your application. Proper planning and a detailed understanding of the requirements can make the process of transitioning easier and give you a higher chance of success!
