What are NCAA Division 2 junior college transfer requirements?

I'm thinking about transferring from a junior college to a Division 2 school for athletics. Does anyone know what the NCAA Division 2 junior college transfer requirements are? Is the process complicated or pretty straightforward?

NCAA Division II requirements for junior college transfers are based on a set of guidelines that include academic eligibility and amateur eligibility.

Academically, you must have completed at least two semesters or three quarters at your junior college. You need to have earned an associate degree or at the very least, have completed some course requirements. You should have a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and, importantly, you will need to meet the necessary progress towards a degree requirement. You need to finish an average 12 credits per term at your previous institution(s).

Amateur eligibility is an important component to consider as well. This mainly relates to the rules around accepting payment for participation in your sport or accepting benefits that aren't available to the general public. Breaching these rules may affect your eligibility.

The process itself can be a bit complex, considering both academic transcripts and athletic eligibility have to be assessed. It may involve multiple steps like filling out specific forms, sending transcripts, course validation etc. However, resources like the NCAA Eligibility Center’s Transfer Guide can be very helpful in clearly outlining the procedures.

Keep in mind though, the final acceptance also depends on individual institution policies, they might have their own additional requirements, so reaching out to your prospective college's admission office or respective sports coach would be a good move to understand the specifics. Each university could potentially have different expectations beyond the NCAA's baseline requirements.

Remember, transferring is a multi-step process involving your current JC, your prospective DII school and the NCAA. So, starting the process early would offer more time to handle challenges that may arise. Good luck!
