Oberlin College Transfer International Students Experience?

I'm an international student thinking about transferring to Oberlin College. Can anyone share their experience with this process? I'm especially interested in support services for international students, both academic and personal.

Hello! Transferring to a new university, especially as an international student, can be a complex process but rewarding at the same time. Oberlin College is known for its welcoming, inclusive community which could be quite beneficial for a smooth transfer experience.

Academic Support: Oberlin College's Academic Advising Resource Center (AARC) has dedicated advisors who can help you plan your academic journey. They can help you understand the credit transfer process as well as select the right courses and majors for your interests and career goals. There's also the Writing Center and Quantitative Skills Program to help you succeed academically.

International Student Support: Oberlin's International Student Resource Center (ISRC) provides a lot of support services for international students. They handle immigration related matters and advise on relevant regulations and compliance. They also offer cultural adjustment support and host fun events that promote international cultural exchange. Don't forget their mentorship program where they pair new international students with returning ones to help guide you during the initial phase!

Personal Support: Additionally, Oberlin offers robust mental health services through their Counseling Center. They provide culturally sensitive counseling and have staff experienced in helping international students acclimate to life in the U.S.

In general, many transfer students highlight the tight-knit, accepting community at Oberlin that helped them ease into life there, along with supportive professors who are approachable and willing to offer extra assistance. Do keep in mind that experiences may vary person to person.

Remember, before transferring, review all short and long term requirements and talk with both your current institution's international office and Oberlin's admissions office to ensure a seamless transition. Best of luck!
