How does Oswego handle college transfer credits?

I'm considering transferring to Oswego and want to know how they handle transfer credits from other colleges. Are there any limitations or specific requirements I should be aware of before making my decision?

Oswego State University of New York (SUNY Oswego) has a fairly flexible policy when it comes to transferring credits from other colleges. Both two-year and four-year institutions' credits can be transferred, as long as the grade you've received is a C- or better. Another important requirement is that the course should be comparable to a course offered by SUNY Oswego.

In terms of limitations, there's a cap on the number of credits that can be transferred. Students transferring from a two-year college can transfer a maximum of 64 semester hours. For students transferring from a four-year institution or a combination of both two-year and four-year institutions, up to 86 semester hours can be transferred. Please note that at least 30 of the last 36 hours need to be completed at Oswego to meet residency requirements for a degree.

Furthermore, it's important to remember that only credits transfer, not the grade points, so transfer credits won't affect your GPA at Oswego.

One more useful resource is the SUNY Oswego's online Transfer Equivalency tool. This tool allows prospective transfer students to see how credits from another institution would transfer to Oswego.

Keep in mind requirements can vary for different programs, so you should contact the Admissions Office or an academic advisor to discuss your individual circumstances. They should be able to tell you whether certain courses you've completed might fulfill general education requirements, prerequisite courses for your major, or other graduation requirements. This step can provide clarity and aid in your decision-making process.
