Pomona College Transfer Application Tips

I'm preparing my transfer application for Pomona College, and any tips would be appreciated! What's something you wish you had known when you applied, or that could make my application stand out?

Considering that you are applying to transfer, it's important to clearly illustrate why you want to make a change and how Pomona specifically aids in moving you toward your academic and career goals. Explore specific programs, courses, faculty, and opportunities you are interested in at Pomona and convincingly articulate how these will facilitate your objectives.

It's also crucial to demonstrate growth and accomplishments since high school. As a transfer student, you have a unique perspective, having already spent some time at another higher education institution, so reflect on what you've learned and how you've grown in that time.

In your essay, avoid negative comments about your current institution. Instead, focus on what draws you to Pomona. Every essay is an opportunity to let the admissions officers know more about you, your passions, and your fit for Pomona’s community and values.

Also, remember to pay attention to recommended and max units for transfer. Because Pomona is a liberal arts college, they require you to be at Pomona for 4 full semesters so you can be sufficiently immersed in the breadth of their curriculum. Students who enter Pomona as sophomores have to complete at least 16 courses, and juniors have to take at least 12. Be sure that you fit under these requirements.
