Transferring Psychology Credits from Ohlone College

I'm currently at Ohlone College and planning to transfer as a psychology major. Does anyone know how smoothly credits transfer, particularly to UCs? Any tips would be appreciated!

Each university has its process for evaluating transfer credits, but generally speaking, community college courses often transfer well to UC schools. The Assist.org website is an excellent resource for California students to see how their community college coursework transfers to UC and CSU institutions, including for major-specific courses.

In terms of your psychology courses at Ohlone College, you're likely taking courses such as Introduction to Psychology, Developmental Psychology, or Abnormal Psychology, all of which are fairly standard offerings and have equivalents at most UC institutions.

When considering transferring, you'll also want to look at how those credits count towards your intended major. In other words, even if a course transfers, it may not necessarily satisfy a requirement for your major's curriculum. Meeting with an adviser at Ohlone, or at the UC you are interested in, can help clarify these specifics.

Lastly, make sure to maintain a competitive GPA as this plays a significant role in the transfer admission process, too. Most UCs have a minimum GPA requirement for transfer students, usually around 2.4 for CA residents and 2.8 for out-of-state, although many programs will be more competitive than this. Furthermore, remember that the UC application period for transfer students is usually by November 30 of the academic year preceding your planned transfer. So be diligent about deadlines!

Please keep in mind that while every effort is made to make the transfer process as smooth as possible, it's essential to stay on top of course requirements, application deadlines, and any other specifics related to your intended major and transfer institution.
