I'm thinking about transferring to Queens College and am interested in their honors program. Can someone tell me what the requirements are for transfer students to get into this program?
To be eligible for the Queens College Transfer Honors Program, transfer students must have an Associate's degree from an accredited American college or university, or have completed 60 credits.
In terms of GPA, the college generally requires students to have at least a 3.2 GPA, but the average GPA for'students admitted into the program seems to be higher, around a 3.5.
As far as other requirements go, while there's no official statement on this, it's a safe assumption that colleges will look for involvement in your prior college's community, both in and out of the classroom. Being part of leadership roles in clubs or organizations, initiating academic projects, or being involved in service projects are common ways to demonstrate this.
Remember that the final decision will take into account the whole of your application, not just your academic history.
Once accepted into the honors program, students are required to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.3 and complete designated honors courses. Being part of the program also allows students to take advantage of priority registration and smaller class sizes, with classes often limited to no more than 20 students.
Keep in mind that the honors program might be more research-focused, so if you're interested in going into a field that requires a lot of research it could be a good fit for you.
The rigorous curriculum should prepare you well for a number of different paths after graduation, whether that's going straight into the workforce or further education. Between the academics, the smaller class sizes, and the opportunity to focus on research, honors programs can be a great option for many students.
The final deadline to apply is generally in the spring, but early application is encouraged due to the competitive nature of the program. Good luck!
