Nursing Transfer from San Diego City College to SDSU

I am studying nursing at San Diego City College and considering transferring to SDSU's nursing program. Does anyone know how feasible this is and what the transfer process might entail?

Transferring from San Diego City College to San Diego State University's nursing program is indeed feasible, as long as you fulfill all the transfer prerequisites and requirements set by SDSU.

Before you initiate the process, it's helpful to know that SDSU holds a competitive admission process for its nursing program, admitting a finite number of students each year into their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. So you'll want to be prepared to showcase your academic strengths and dedication to the program.

As a nursing student, the general requirements should be quite similar to what you're currently studying at San Diego City College. Transfer students are typically expected to have completed specific prerequisite courses with a certain GPA. These may include subjects such as Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology.

Importantly, SDSU has a minimum 3.0 GPA for its transfer nursing majors. Although, given the competitive nature of getting admission into their nursing program, a higher GPA will increase your chances. As a transfer student from a local community college, you might get preference if you meet the local admission criteria.

Students interested in transferring have to submit their application through Cal State Apply, the single application portal for all California State University campuses.

Keep in mind, SDSU requires that all applicants complete their Golden Four (Oral Communication, Written Communication, Critical Thinking, and Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning) by the end of spring term prior to fall admission or by the end of summer for spring admission.

Additionally, SDSU's nursing program also requires Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) scores. This is an industry-standard required by many nursing programs across the country. So ensure you study for and take the TEAS exam.

Remember, while the process may sound complex, your current school's transfer center and SDSU's transfer student resources can provide you with help navigating through the process. Reach out and take advantage of these services to ensure a smooth transition.
