Is it possible to transfer to Rutgers Honors College?

I'm currently attending another college but really interested in joining the Honors College at Rutgers. Does anyone have insight into the transfer process and whether it's possible to get into the Honors program? Any advice would be appreciated!

Certainly! Transfer applicants can indeed apply to Rutgers University with the aspiration of entering the Honors program. However, it's important to note that there's a difference between general Honors programs available in some Rutgers schools, and the selective Honors College available only on the New Brunswick campus

At Rutgers New Brunswick, there's the Honors College, which is quite exclusive and only available to incoming first-year students. This means you cannot apply as a transfer student directly into the Honors College. Selection into the Honors College is very competitive and happens at the time of your initial application to the university.

On the other hand, there are separate Honors Programs offered in Rutgers schools—the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, and the School of Engineering—which do accept students after their first semester or year, including transfer students. Acceptance into these programs typically depends on strong academic performance at your current institution and in college-level coursework.

So in short, while you can't transfer into Rutgers' Honors College, you can apply for their separate Honors Programs after having been accepted as a transfer student. You should reach out to the department that houses the honors program you're interested in for the most accurate and detailed information on how to apply. Be sure to maintain a high GPA at your current institution and demonstrate strong academic prowess to increase your chances of being accepted. Cultural fit and commitment to the values and principles of the Honors Programs will also be considered in the admissions decision.
