Does Rutgers consider transfer applicants' college costs?

I'm in the process of transferring to Rutgers and am concerned about the costs associated with it. Does anyone know if Rutgers looks into financial factors when reviewing transfer applications? How might this affect my options?

Rutgers University, as with most higher education institutions, separates its financial aid considerations from its admission decisions. When reviewing transfer applications, Rutgers focuses primarily on your academic records from your previous institutions, any personal statements or essays you've submitted, and other non-financial materials.

Creating a financially diverse student body is often a priority for universities, but the details of a student's financial situation aren't typically factored into admission decisions. Instead, your financial information is used by Rutgers' financial aid office to assemble a suitable aid package based on established criteria for need and merit.

Your options for aid might include federal or state grants, work-study opportunities, or student loans. Rutgers also has some scholarships specifically for transfer students, and some departments have scholarships for students in that major. To be considered for all forms of financial aid, you'll need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application, if applicable. Start these forms as soon as you can to give yourself the best shot at receiving aid.

Remember to use the net price calculator on Rutgers’ website to get an estimate of your cost of attendance. If you are accepted and the financial aid package isn't as high as you need it to be, you can contact the financial aid office and ask about the possibility of an appeal for more aid.

So, while college costs won't directly affect your acceptance as a transfer student, your financial situation will definitely come into play when figuring out your financial aid award.
