Transferring from San Diego Mesa College to SDSU

I'm thinking about transferring from San Diego Mesa College to San Diego State University. Does anyone know what the process and requirements are? Are there any strong programs or reasons to choose SDSU?

San Diego State University (SDSU) is a participant in the California Community College Transfer Guarantee to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) program, and it has agreements with specific community colleges to facilitate transfer. Typically, these agreements ensure easier admission if you meet certain academic requirements.

Firstly, eligibility for transfer to SDSU requires you to complete 60 semester (or 90 quarter) units of transferable college level coursework with a GPA of at least 2.0 (C grade average). Lower division courses and pre-requisites for your intended major ought to be completed at San Diego Mesa prior to transferring. Consult with an academic advisor to determine which of your San Diego Mesa College credits will transfer to SDSU.

As for the application process, you can submit it through the Cal State Apply website. Make sure to keep up with the deadlines, as SDSUs transfer applications are typically due in the fall of the year before you plan to transfer, but dates can vary.

For reasons to choose SDSU, it has strong programs in multiple areas. Known for its business school, SDSU’s Entrepreneurship, International Business, and Marketing programs are all highly ranked. The university also shines in the areas of hospitality & tourism management, speech-language pathology, and rehabilitation counseling among others.

What's unique about SDSU is its strong focus on experiential learning and community engagement. With a variety of study abroad opportunities, internship programs, and volunteer work, the university is committed to students gaining real-world experiences outside of the classroom. And, SDSU alumni network is large, providing students with a plethora of networking opportunities after graduation.

Consider what you’d like to get out of your undergraduate experience and what your goals for your future career are. If one of SDSU’s strong programs aligns with your intended career path and you see value in their emphasis on real-world experience, SDSU could be a great fit for you.
