Applying as an International Transfer to Sarah Lawrence College

Does anyone have experience with the international transfer process to Sarah Lawrence College? I'm looking for information on application requirements, deadlines, and any specific challenges international students might face. Any tips or stories would be helpful!

For Sarah Lawrence College, the application process for international transfer students is pretty straightforward, akin to that for U.S. transfer students. Sarah Lawrence has a holistic review process, but there's still a list of materials you'll need to prepare:

1. A completed Common Application with the Sarah Lawrence supplement.

2. A College official's report form (completed by a college adviser, dean or other official at your current college). It must be sent directly from the official to Sarah Lawrence.

3. Transcripts from all secondary schools and universities attended.

4. A College Transcript translated into English and an official course-by-course evaluation by a NACES member may also be required.

5. A Transfer Mid-Term Report form.

6. You'll also need to demonstrate English language proficiency, usually by taking the TOEFL or IELTS exam. Seeing as you're an international applicant, Sarah Lawrence College will want to see a high score on one of these exams to know you're capable of doing college-level work in English. Providing these scores is especially crucial if you've done your previous schooling in a language that's not English.

If your native language is English, or if you've studied for at least two years in a school where the primary language of instruction is English, you won't need to submit TOEFL/IELTS scores.

The application deadlines for international transfer students are November 1 for Spring admission and March 1 for Fall admission. I'd suggest gently staying in touch with the admissions office and double-checking your application's completeness since international mail can occasionally be delayed.

As for challenges international students might face, these can often pertain to adjusting to American college life and a different education system. To ease this transition, Sarah Lawrence offers various support services for international students, including assistance with visa processes, workshops, and advising.

Cultural differences might also pose some challenges, as well as maintaining good communication with professors and peers. Participating in activities, clubs, and societies can be a fantastic way to make some local friends quickly and find your footing in the school community. Don't hesitate to ask for help or clarification when needed—remembering that everyone is eager for you to succeed at Sarah Lawrence.

Lastly, don't forget to provide evidence of financial support. An International Student Declaration of Finances form (included in Common Application) must be completed. It will need to be attested by a bank official confirming that you can support the costs of college education for at least the first year.

Remember, every university has unique application requirements and deadlines, so make sure you start early and keep a checklist to keep track of everything you need to submit.
